George Berger is a partner at Phillips Nizer LLP where he heads the Insurance Department and is a member of the Litigation Department.
Mr. Berger has been engaged in a wide ranging civil litigation, appellate, arbitration and mediation practice for over 45 years in the fields of contract, insurance, copyright, trademark, defamation, privacy, fraud, unfair competition, antitrust, licensing, real estate, art, securities, oil and gas, professional liability and defense contractor claims. Additionally, Mr. Berger has extensive experience in wrongful termination disputes, trusts and will contests, ERISA matters, numerous commercial transactions, life and disability insurance policy defense and environmental insurance issues.
In 2008, Mr. Berger began serving a three-year term as a member of the Departmental Disciplinary Committee of the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division, First Judicial Department. The Committee, among other responsibilities, adjudicates disciplinary cases involving attorney misconduct.
Mr. Berger is a noted author having contributed to various industry and bar association periodicals and books. He has also lectured at continuing legal education programs and been a featured speaker at seminars and meetings of trade and industry associations.
Mr. Berger graduated from New York University, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and received his law degree from New York University School of Law, where he was Associate Managing Editor of the Law Review.
