Areas of Experience:

Henry A. Lowet is counsel in the Trusts & Estates Department of Phillips Nizer LLP.  He has been engaged for more than 45 years in a broad estates and trusts and related taxation practice, including lifetime giving and estate planning, drafting of sophisticated wills and trust agreements, representation of charitable foundations, estate and trust administration, accountings, construction proceedings, will contests, preparation of estate and generation-skipping transfer tax returns, blockage questions, charitable dispositions outright and in trust, matrimonial problems (pre-nuptial and separation agreements), closely held business questions and valuations, family trusts, executive employee benefits, multistate and multinational considerations in estate planning, lifetime and post-death income tax planning and SEC problems of “insiders” as they relate to charitable and family dispositions.

Mr. Lowet has served as a developer of legislation, including New York’s “durable” general power of attorney and health care proxy.  He has frequently appeared as a lecturer before lay and professional groups and has written extensively in his areas of specialization.  He presently serves as director of a charitable foundation and is active as a member of other charitable and philanthropic organizations.

Mr. Lowet graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1954 and received his LL.B. from Yale Law School in 1957.  He is a Member of the Bars of the States of New York and Florida; the American, New York State and New York City bar associations and is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Prior to joining Phillips Nizer, Mr. Lowet was a member of the Trusts and Estates Department of the New York office of Anderson Kill & Olick, P.C.
