Areas of Experience:

Ari Weisbrot is a partner in the Litigation Department at Phillips Nizer LLP where he focuses his practice on all aspects of commercial and civil litigation matters relating to contract, securities, employment, real estate, banking, and environmental law, in state and federal courts in New York and New Jersey and throughout the United States.  Mr. Weisbrot has also arbitrated numerous matters before the NASD, NYSE, and AAA.  He is a frequent lecturer on civil litigation, and has taught courses at the university and high school level.  He has been featured on CBS Radio’s Wall Street Journal Report, quoted in legal and non-legal periodicals, and has been recognized as a “Top Young Lawyer” in New Jersey.

Mr. Weisbrot is a true “client’s lawyer,” representing a diverse range of clients from among the largest retailers in the United States to smaller local businesses to religious and charitable organizations.  As a result of his strong commitment to offering premier legal representation, coupled with a unique approach to extraordinary customer service, Mr. Weisbrot is often called upon to offer corporate counsel and litigation strategy to public and private companies. 

A sampling of his representations include:

  • Obtaining a judgment in the Supreme Court of New York on behalf of a major retailer against its landlord, defeating the landlord's efforts to terminate the lease for the retailer's flagship location in the Bronx.
  • Obtaining judgment dismissing a $2.5 million lawsuit against a major retailer over its proposed purchase of property in New Jersey.
  • Recovering a substantial judgment on behalf of a chain shoe store in New York, as a result of the subsequent owner's breach of contract.
  • Negotiating the settlement of a multi-million dollar securities lawsuit filed in Georgia on behalf of an institutional investor, which resulted in the recovery of damages in excess of the investment.
  • Obtaining a large verdict on behalf on a major software company against a former vendor who was unlawfully infringing upon the client's intellectual property.

Mr. Weisbrot was appointed by Supreme Court of the State of New Jersey to serve on the District Ethics Committee (IIB - Bergen County), which operates under the auspices of the New Jersey State Office of Attorney Ethics, overseeing and investigating allegations of unethical conduct by members of the Bar.

Mr. Weisbrot has been awarded an 'AV' rating for his professionalism and the quality of his legal work from Martindale-Hubbell, the premier directory of legal professionals, and has been selected by his peers as a Super Lawyerâ.  In addition, Mr. Weisbrot has written several articles on commercial litigation, which have been published in the New Jersey Law Journal and the Metropolitan Corporate Counsel.

A Former New York City prosecutor, Mr. Weisbrot is a graduate of Fordham University School of Law, where he was a member of the Urban Law Journal and a featured columnist in the Law School newspaper.
