Spencer is an Associate at Phillips Nizer and focuses his practice on commercial litigation and advising emerging companies along their trajectory from inception to maturity.Spencer's representative litigation matters include shareholder litigations, corporate governance disputes, trademark and copyright disputes, breach of contract actions, business tort actions and debtor and creditor suits. His representative matters for emerging companies include structuring and papering corporate governance, joint ventures, stock purchase agreements, employment agreements, vendor agreements and funding and venture pitches; he also provides start-ups and growth companies with general advisory counsel. Spencer has handled matters in federal and state courts, in trial and appellate courts and in arbitration and mediation. His clients include, among others, private equity and venture capital firms, financial technology firms, virtual reality developers, best-selling authors, clothing designers, manufacturers and high net-worth individual investors.
Prior to practicing law, Spencer worked in private equity and as a strategy consultant, including on projects for Sixpoint Brewery, JetLev-Flyer and Major League Baseball players in their salary arbitrations and free agency negotiations. Spencer also served as a Judicial Clerk (Extern) in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, under the Honorable Chief Magistrate Judge Nannette A. Baker.
