Phillips Nizer Adds Two New Partners to New York Office

11/22/2017

Firm brings aboard Matrimonial partner Richard Adago and Real Estate partner Thomas Fuerth

Continuing to grow the firm’s diverse practice groups, Phillips Nizer LLP has added two new partners – Matrimonial & Family Law attorney Richard J. Adago and Real Estate partner Thomas L. Fuerth – to the firm’s New York office.

The additions come in a month in which Phillips Nizer already added two new prominent attorneys to its team – Christian Hylton, a partner in the Land Use & Government Relations practice, and Jeffrey Q. Smith, a litigator who had previously led litigation departments for several large law firms.

“Our two newest attorneys will expand Phillips Nizer’s bench strength and will help us continue to provide clients with the top level service they expect from our firm. Each one of them has deep experience in their respective practices – Rich has handled some of the toughest matrimonial litigations, and Tom has deep experience in representing the diverse real estate needs of his clients,” said Phillips Nizer managing partner Marc Landis.

Richard J. Adago

Mr. Adago, who previously worked as an associate at Phillips Nizer, re-joins the firm from Hartmann Doherty Rosa Berman & Bulbulia, LLC. Prior to this, he was a partner at Blank Rome LLP. In addition to his career in private practice, Mr. Adago served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

He represents high net worth individuals in divorce proceedings, and advises clients with respect to property distribution agreements, custody issues, prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements, paternity suits, and other matrimonial matters relating to real estate, tax, and trust and estate planning. He has also been very active in the ever-evolving area of same-sex divorce litigation.

Mr. Adago has worked as an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School since 2012. In May 2011, his pro bono efforts on behalf of a female Iraqi war veteran who lost custody of her children were part of a documentary aired at the Robin Hood Foundation’s Annual Gala.

He received his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and his B.A. from the State University of New York at Oswego.

Thomas L. Fuerth

Mr. Fuerth represents real estate owners, tenants, lenders, developers and management companies in all facets of commercial and residential real estate transactions. He also handles protests of New York City real property tax assessments for all types of commercial and residential properties.

Additionally, Mr. Fuerth serves as general counsel to boards of directors for cooperative and condominium buildings, as well as not-for-profit organizations, including religious and educational institutions.

Prior to joining Phillips Nizer, Mr. Fuerth was a partner of the law firm Wormser, Kiely, Galef & Jacobs LLP, and prior to that, of Snow Becker Krauss P.C., where he served on the executive committee.

He earned his J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, an MBA from St. John’s University and his B.A. from Hunter College of the City University of New York.
