Elizabeth A. Adinolfi Honored By Local Domestic Violence Center
for Pro Bono Work

Elizabeth A. Adinolfi Receives Honor From Local Domestic Violence Center for Pro Bono WorkNEW YORK – Elizabeth A. Adinolfi, litigation associate at Phillips Nizer LLP, was honored by Sanctuary for Families Center for Battered Women’s Legal Services with their second annual Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Advocacy on the evening of Thursday, November 11, 2004 for her “extraordinary work” relating to two cases on behalf of the Center’s clients.  Ms Adinolfi’s successful defense associated with the highly publicized matrimonial action Havell v. Islam, set important legal precedent by allowing courts to consider severe domestic violence in the allocation of marital assets at divorce.  A separate case against the Administration for Children’s Services, allowed for a mother’s right to make decisions on behalf of her child.  Her client, a domestic violence victim whose child had developmental problems and special needs, was prosecuted for educational neglect when she refused to place the child in a recommended education setting she felt was inappropriate.  Ms. Adinolfi's argument before the Appellate Division prevailed.  Ms. Adinolfi will be receiving her award during the Center’s benefit being held at the Phyllis Kind Gallery, 136 Greene Street (Soho) in New York City.

Ms. Adinolfi is a graduate of Hamline University School of Law (St. Paul, Minnesota), where she graduated summa cum laude, and received The M. Arnold Lyons Award for Highest Academic Performance in the Graduating Class.  She received her undergraduate degree from Macalester College.
