NEW YORK Elliot J. Wiener, a partner with the New York law firm of Phillips Nizer LLP, has been admitted as a fellow to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML). Mr. Wiener, who joined the firms Matrimonial Department in 2003, concentrates his practice in the areas of divorce, custody and visitation, support and other related matters. He has extensive trial and appellate experience and practices in all courts throughout metropolitan New York.
Founded in 1962, the American Academy of Matrimonial Law is made up of the nations top matrimonial attorneys. The organization seeks to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the cause of matrimonial law. To qualify for membership, attorneys must have been admitted to the bar for at least ten years and have a 75 percent specialization in the area of matrimonial law, pass an oral or written examination and be interviewed by a state board of examiners.
In addition to his selection for the Academy, Mr. Wiener is a member of Family Law Section and the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association, the Legislation Subcommittee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, where he is the also the Associations delegate and serves as Co-Chair of the Interdisciplinary Forum on Mental Health and Family Law, and is a member of the New York County Lawyers Associations Matrimonial Committee.
