1933 - 2011
New York, NY – The New York law firm of Phillips Nizer expresses profound sadness as we mourn the passing of our dear partner, Sheldon Rudoff.
“Shelly,” as he was fondly known, joined Phillips Nizer’s Corporate Department in September 2008 continuing his practice in corporate and commercial law. He had a long and illustrious career representing clients in matters relating to mergers and acquisitions and the purchasing, selling and financing of commercial and residential real estate, as well as counseling privately-owned businesses, corporations, not-for-profits and philanthropic organizations in licensing matters.
Shelly was the consummate legal professional, religious leader, community activist and humanitarian. His communal activities and appointments were varied and spanned decades. A graduate of Yeshiva University, Shelly served as a member of the Board of Directors of Yeshiva College, the undergraduate college of arts and sciences for men of the University. He also served as the Honorary President of the Beth Din of America (where he served as a judge) and the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America. He served as Chairman of the Board of a UJA-Federation agency, Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Conference on Claims against Germany and a member of the United Jewish Communities audit committee.
Sheldon “Shelly” Rudoff was born in 1933 in Brooklyn, New York. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yeshiva University, cum laude, in 1954, and a law degree, magna cum laude, from New York University in 1958. He was admitted to practice in New York and before the United States Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He was a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New York State Bar Association, the Federal Bar Council and the American Bar Association.
Shelly is survived by his loving wife Hedda, their daughters Sara and Simone, their son-in-law and our colleague, Ira Olshin, counsel in Phillips Nizer’s Trusts & Estates and Tax Departments, and his extended family.
Sheldon “Shelly” Rudoff, our colleague and friend, will be sorely missed.
