Litigation
Litigation is the largest and one of the best-known practice areas at Phillips Nizer. Roughly half of our lawyers practice in litigation and litigation-related fields. We appear in state and federal courts and before administrative tribunals, at the trial and appellate levels, in New York and around the country. We also have extensive experience in all types of arbitration proceedings and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
Our Litigation Tradition Our former senior partner, Louis Nizer, achieved prominence by approaching each of his cases with the same basic practice principles: he combined relentless and indefatigable attention to detail with rigorous preparation, innovative problem solving, zealous advocacy and solid team work. The approach Mr. Nizer practiced for over 50 years became an ingrained and proud tradition at our firm. Our litigators are reared in this demanding tradition and our result-oriented client service evidences our deep commitment to it.
Big, Medium and Small We look at all cases from both a professional and business-oriented approach. What's best for this particular case? An aggressive and creative settlement approach? An alternative dispute resolution such as arbitration? Or vigorous litigation in state or federal court?
To provide the most effective service to our clients, our litigation group routinely draws upon the skills of other practice groups at the firm such as corporate, creditors' rights and reorganizations, environmental, insurance, intellectual property, labor, matrimonial, real estate, trusts and estates and white collar criminal law.
Appropriate staffing of cases is another critical element to achieving optimal results for our clients at the least cost to them. We assemble teams of lawyers for major cases, and staff medium-sized cases with one or two partners working with one or two associates. Smaller cases are typically handled by a partner or an associate under a partner's supervision. This overall approach and flexibility translates into efficiencies such as speedier and less costly results.
