Ira C. Olshin is counsel in the Trusts & Estates and Tax Departments at Phillips Nizer LLP where he focuses his practice on estate and succession planning for high net worth families and closely-held businesses.

Prior to joining Phillips Nizer, Mr. Olshin worked in the corporate and tax departments of a prominent New York law firm and at several large public accounting firms.  His experience includes advising clients in corporate and commercial transactions, as well as taxation.

He frequently writes and has authored several articles in The Tax Adviser, a journal of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, including "Make Sure that a Durable Power of Attorney is Truly Durable," "Right to Be Free of Estate Tax Liability May Be Disclaimed," "Section 2036 and FLPs," and "IRS Curbs Use of Crummey Powers."

Mr. Olshin obtained a B.S., summa cum laude, from Yeshiva University in 1989 and a J.D., magna cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1993. While attending Cardozo, he served as a Supervising Editor of the Cardozo Law Review. He received an LL.M in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1997.

Mr. Olshin is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and also is a Certified Public Accountant.
